Since it’s an easy drive from the Atlanta area, Lake Winfield Scott is the perfect destination for a weekend getaway or family camping vacation.

Situated high in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area allows you to experience Georgia camping at its finest. The 18-acre lake was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s and offers ample opportunities to swim, fish, boat & hike. Sleep under the stars on one of the 31 beautiful campsites, or rent a two-story cabin, accommodating up to 10 people. The Bavarian village of Helen, GA is close by and Atlanta is less than two hours away. Groceries in Blairsville are only 16 miles away. If you’re looking for true beauty, visit Brasstown Bald Recreation Area – Georgia’s tallest mountain and an incredible 360 degree view.  The Bald is only 23 miles from Lake Winfield Scott. Directions

From Blairsville, take U.S. 19/129 south for 10 miles. Turn right (west) on Georgia 180 for 7 miles. Turn right onto Forest Road 37 at Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area entrance.

From Dahlonega, take U.S. 19 north for approximately 20 miles. Turn left (west) on Georgia 180 for 7 miles. Turn left onto Forest Road 37 at Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area entrance.

FAQ
How big is the cabin?

The cabin is two stories for up to 10 people (early April through November).

May I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash or kenneled at all times. Please clean up after your pet! If you are staying in the cabin, pets are not permitted inside unless it is a service animal. Please note dogs are not permitted in the roped off swimming area.

Where is the dump station located?

The dump station is located 7.8 miles away at Vogel State Park.

What fish species are found at Lake Winfield?

Catfish, Trout, Yellow Perch, Bluegill, and Largemouth Bass can be found at Lake Winfield.
