Have you ever gazed up at the night sky and wondered what was “out there”? Now’s your chance to view Brasstown Bald’s scenic vista in a whole new light – or dark!
We’ll be meeting up with our astronomy friends for a special program at the highest point in Georgia to discover the hidden mysteries of the state’s darkest sky. Astronomer Alex Langoussis will guide you though the night sky scape while interpreting the wonders of the universe through galactic stories, expertise, and the use of a professional telescope. You’ll be a “Guardian of the Galaxy” after spending an evening learning about the magic of deep space and northern Georgia’s incredible nightscape!
Pre-registration is required. Please scroll down to view the calendar of dates and to register!
Georgia based astronomer, and your star gazing captain
Recently retired from teaching at Emory University, Alex has been professionally conducting research and education programs since 1979. Alex was an investigator for the international Puckett Observatory Supernova Search Team, and is credited with the discovery of 24 supernovas (exploding stars in other galaxies). His passion and deep knowledge for the night sky has allowed him to expand his educational outreach to diverse venues such as the top of city skyscapers, public schools & universities, nature centers, the Atlanta Fernbank Science Center Observatory for 20 years, and to the desert of the NamibRand Nature Preserve in Namibia, Africa, as the in house guest astronomer for a 5-star nature lodge. Alex will join us at Brasstown Bald for a series of mountain top astronomy programs in 2018.
