Van Hook Glade Campground is an intimate,
wooded campground approximately four miles from the heart
of Highlands, NC in Nantahala National Forest. You can hike from
Van Hook to the nearby Cliffside Lake Recreation Area, where you can swim, fish and take part in educational programs. Nearby, you'll find Dry Falls and Whitewater Falls.
Highlands itself is known for its diverse species of wildlife, as well as being the second highest town
west of the Mississippi. Click

you have the opportunity to enjoy The
Bascom, Highlands
Botanical Garden, and The
Martin-Lipscomb Performing Arts Center.
Interpretive and Educational programs are
offered during the summer, and programs include opportunities
to learn about animals of the forest and all aspects of nature
and the outdoors.
A short distance from the campground, you
will find a local market store in Highlands. However, a fifteen
minute drive will get you to the Town
of Franklin, NC; the Gem Capitol of the world. You
will also find grocery stores, hardware stores, and general shopping.
You may also want to visit the Smokey
Mountain Center for the Performing Arts, or take
a short drive to Cherokee, NC and visit Harrah’s
Cherokee Casino or the Cherokee
Indian Reservation.
