Come sleep under the stars in the Pisgah National Forest. Lake Powhatan is located adjacent to Asheville, North Carolina on the southwest side of the city; approximately 9 miles from Downtown. The campground and offers peace, quiet and solitude in its spacious area and under the deciduous evergreen canopy. The campground borders the 6000 acre Bent Creek Experimental Forest, and is close to the French Broad River a popular fishing location; as well as opportunities for hiking and mountain biking. Being located in Pisgah National Forest, it is easy to access popular places such as Sliding Rock, The Cradle of Forestry Discovery Center, Looking Glass Rock Scenic Area and the Blue Ridge Parkway. A short distance from the campground is the North Carolina Arboretum, The Folk Art Center, and Farmer’s Market of Asheville.
Interpretive and Educational programs are offered during the summer and fall. These programs include opportunities to learn about animals of the forest and all aspects of nature and the outdoors. There are also programs with arts, crafts, and sometimes even a fun movie at the amphitheatre. For more program info visit our Calendar of Events.
Within 5 miles of the campground you will find a grocery store, restaurants, and shopping. The campground is also on the outskirts of Asheville, NC, a small town known for art, music, crafts, Bele Chere Festival, Biltmore Estate and Grove Park Inn.
