The Cradle of Forestry in America Interpretive Association(CFAIA) is a non-profit organization established to support and assist the U.S. Forest Service. One of the more visible programs that we operate is the management of Forest Service Campgrounds in several National Forests. This includes the recruiting, training, and placing of campground hosts. Your primary responsibility as a host will be contributing to the efforts of the Forest Service in helping to provide a memorable experience for our camping visitors.

We manage campgrounds in the following National Forests:

•Pisgah National Forest, NC
•Nantahala National Forest, NC
•George Washington National Forest, VA
•Jefferson National Forest, VA
•Hoosier National Forest, IN
  Chattahoochee National Forest, GA

We also manage campgrounds for private partners:
•Cascade Lake Recreation Area, NC

Becoming a part of our team of hosts involves:

•Greeting and registering camping guests and collecting fees.
•Providing information about the campground facilities and recreational   opportunities in the National Forests.
•Helping maintain the good appearance of the campground through grounds up-keep and maintenance.
•Using your creativity to meet special needs such as educational programming, carpentry or designing info boards
•Meeting the needs of campers through daily visits to sites.

Hosts are provided a campsite with a full hook-up campsite. Most hosts work about twenty-four hours each week and need to plan to be in the campground on weekends and during high volume times, as well as two other days. Shifts and work times vary depending on the facility.

The campground season typically runs April-October. It is helpful if hosts can work 2 consecutive months (8 weeks) or more. However, duration may be flexible depending on the time of season. Think about what skills you and your spouse have which you would hope to use as a campground host. (Example: artistic, carpentry, clerical, general maintenance, landscaping, organizing programs, people skills, computer, digital media . . .)

There is no secret to being a good campground host. Just treat your fellow campers like you expect to be treated when you pull into your favorite campground!
