Located in
the Appalachian District of the Pisgah National Forest, Black
Mountain and Briar Bottom Group Campground sit 3,000 feet up near
Mount Mitchell, the highest peak in North Carolina at 6,684 feet.
Located on the South Toe River, campers have a perfect place for
swimming, tubing and trout
fishing. Follow this beautiful river while taking
in the breathtaking views along Hemlock Nature trail, or take
a 5.6 mile hike to the top of Mount Mitchell. Serenity surrounds
you in this part of the forest.

distance from the campground you will find Mount
Mitchell State Park, Mt. Mitchell Golf
Course, Farmer’s
Market of Asheville, Blue
Ridge Parkway, Folk
Art Center, Biltmore
Estate, and downtown Asheville.
Shopping is available in Burnsville,
Spruce
Pine, and Marion
which are all about 30 minutes from the campground. You will also
find places such as the North Carolina Mineral Museum, horseback
riding at Clear
Creek Ranch, and other shopping and restaurants in
Little Switzerland.

programs include opportunities to learn about animals of the forest
