The CFAIA takes pride in its partnerships with other local non-profit organizations and government entities. The focus is on leading the public and special groups about the importance of our local eco-systems and conservation of our natural resources. We offer summer camps, public programs and hikes, cooperative leadership for children with special needs and so much more. Take a look below at a few of the projects that our Education Section is working on. If you’d like to partner with us, please contact Adam DeWitte, Director of Education at 828-884-5713 x224 and firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Adventure Zone at the Cradle of Forestry
The Adventure Zone at the Cradle Heritage Site is a revolutionary idea that brought together the great work of the NC Autism Society and our Education Section. We’ve developed a “trail” of hands-on, experiential activities that help children with autism interact with the natural world. They touch, investigate, jump, crawl and dig their way through a paved trail that uses a special map to guide their way. After hearing about the Zone, we began partnering with Camp Lakey Gap to provide their residential camp for autistic children with the same basic activities.
Balsam Mountain Preserve
Our good friends at Balsam Mountain Preserve offer our campers an incredible experience with live raptors from their nature center every summer. This season, they will be conducting six programs at our Recreation Area at Cliffside Lake, NC. Don’t miss this great opportunity to get up close and personal with our local birds of prey.
